A residential community in Beijing has introduced facial recognition technology to its waste-sorting system.

The smart system allows the dust bins to be opened automatically when residents’ facial information is verified by the camera, which makes the process more convenient and hygienic.

According to CGTN, A total of seven dust bins were set in the smart sorting system to hold different types of garbage including kitchen waste, paper, metal etc.

Beijing announced last week that the city would follow Shanghai’s steps in rolling out garbage-sorting regulations.
