The Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Operations, Abdulmajid Ali, has disowned a fraudulent Facebook account operated by imposters in his name, the PUNCH reports.

He warned the public against the unscrupulous activities of some persons who have been using a Facebook account in his name to defraud unsuspecting individuals.

The DIG in a statement by his personal assistant, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Saturday, stated that he had no social media account, noting that his Facebookaccount had been dormant for a long time.

It said, “Specifically, the owner or subscriber with phone number 08163352997, has been impersonating DIG Abdulmajid Ali for a while and soliciting help, offering fake foreign and local courses to security operatives including innocent Nigerians in a bid to dupe them of their hard-earned incomes.”

Ali urged the public to beware of “these elements with criminal tendencies” and assist the police in their ongoing efforts to track the syndicate down for proper investigation and prosecution.

He equally admonished the citizens to stay safe and abide by the guidelines against the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
