The youth president of Akirika-Obu Ndoki in Abia state, Emmanuel Mbacha was assaulted on Friday as soldiers from Ibawa Baracks in Akwa-Ibom state raided the community, leaving many injured.
Residents report that soldiers stormed the community around 6 a.m.
Chukwudi Innocent Nna, who spoke to our correspondent, said soldiers stormed the community at the invitation of neighboring Akwa-Ibom community who were seeking to stop the barracks renovation project in Akirika-Obu by the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.
The Ika village in Akwa-Ibom had often claimed that the land of Akirika-Obu – the community of Abia was part of their village, a claim ruled by court and others as “false.”
Ndoki Mmanmanu which also confirmed the report said; “Little did we know that the presence of the army was to give way for intruders to strike. Immediately the Army left at about 9am, miscreants from neighbouring Ika village attacked one Mr Akaeze Nna, Inflicting machetes cuts on him.
“Our concerns are, what has the military at Ibagwa Barracks got to do with an ongoing project in Abia state?
“I think it’s hightime they call the G.O.C, 6 battalion, Ibagwa Barracks, Abak to order, Akirika-obu is in Ukwa-East Local Government in Abia state which is out of his territory. We shall not fail to expose their evil machinations, as no part of Ndoki land will be ceded to the Anangs, they should take that to the bank.”
